Natividad Grand Rounds Podcast Series

Target Audience:  Natividad Medical Center and Monterey County Community providers and clinical professionals.

Medical providers practicing in the acute care hospital and trauma center setting must evaluate and treat the widest breadth of clinical presentations in all of medicine.  Diagnosis and management of these disease processes change frequently and keep up to take with relevant changes and new evidence is difficult to do.

Natividad's CME Program has designed this series to address this in an alternate format - easily accessible during these times.

The Natividad Grand Rounds podcast series is comprised of separate episodes — each episode is eligible for up to 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™.  To obtain credit for an episode, you must complete the Activity Reflection by submitting a reflective statement (a few sentences) for each podcast episode  you complete.  A link will be provided in each Episode Description.

Desired Outcomes:

  • Discuss evidence and consensus-based recommendations for practice improvement.
  • Effectively translate the acquired strategies into improved diagnostics and subsequently implement a better treatment plan for patients.

Mission Statement

The purpose of our Continuing Medical Education (CME) program here at Natividad is to provide accredited Continuing Medical Education Activities to our medical staff to knowledge, competence and performance so they are able to provide the best medical care possible to our community.

As we design our activities using accreditation criteria, we expect the following results:

  • We will present unbiased accredited Continuing Medical Education Activities;
  • We will help our learners fulfill their requirements for licensure and maintenance of certification;
  • We will close the gaps in learners’ knowledge and competence relating to cultural diversity and disparities;
  • We will demonstrate improved competence of our learners through use of an evaluation tool at our activities;
  • We will use accredited Continuing Medical Education Activities to help the hospital meet its strategic plan and make improvements in hospital systems of care, with an emphasis on the following areas identified, in conjunction with the Leapfrog Group semi-annual survey:
    • Inpatient Care Management
    • Medication Safety

CME Committee Elevator Speeches

CME is education for doctors, nurses and other medical professionals that allow them to learn about the newest and best information available so they can continue to give great patient care.

I participate because I like to be one of the Stewards of Natividad. On the CME Committee, we are minding the gaps in hospital processes and patient care. The Natividad CME program is meaningful to me:

  • it’s free,
  • the education is directly related to our practices,
  • it’s easy and convenient to participate, and
  • it contributes to improvements in patient care.

It also allows us to earn the credits we need to get our licenses renewed and Board re-certifications.

Earn CME by Reading Dynamed

Physicians and nurse practitioners using DynaMed to inform and support their clinical decisions are eligible to earn continuing medical education (CME) credits and continuing nursing education (CNE) contact hours, respectively, for this internet point of care (PoC) activity. Physicians in certain specialties may also be eligible to earn Part II Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points (See Accreditation/Credit Designation). The American Medical Association (AMA) Physician's Recognition Award and credit system describes internet point of care (PoC) CME as self-directed, online learning on topics relevant to a physician’s clinical practice from a database whose content has been vetted by an accredited CME provider.

Learning for this activity is based on a reflective process in which a learner 1) identifies a problem in practice, 2) accesses content in search of an answer from DynaMed content, and 3) documents the clinical question and the application to practice. Physicians conducting structured online searching and learning may claim 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for the documented completion of the three-step learning cycle. A maximum of 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ may be claimed per year for this activity.

Introduction

Learning from Teaching

AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ is now available to physicians to recognize "faculty learning" associated with the preparation for, and teaching of, medical students, residents, and fellows at Natividad.

You can earn credit for the learning associated with the preparation and teaching of an original presentation for medical students, residents, and fellows at Natividad.

  • Learning must be paired with teaching.* You must engage in some new learning that is applied to the teaching activity.  Credit will be awarded based on a 2 :1 ratio to teaching time.  Credits will be rounded to the nearest 15 minutes (.25 credits).
  • Learning from teaching credit may be earned by preparing for:  lectures, developing case studies, supervising clinical or simulated activities, teaching clinical skills, and/or mentoring QI/PI projects.
  • Credit may be claimed only once for teaching the same content, even if being presented to a different audience.
  • Educational material that is used in the learning process should be independent of any pharmaceutical or device company.
  • One application form should be completed for each learning activity and submitted to the CME Program.
  • In order to receive credit, you must submit an application form within 6 months of the teaching

Natividad Medical Center is accredited by the California Medical Association (CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Natividad Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per 1 hour of teaching medical students and/or residents/fellows.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Because this activity is a self-directed educational activity, Natividad is not required to identify, mitigate, or disclose financial relationships for the planners or learners.   https://www.accme.org/accreditation-rules/standard-3-identify-mitigate-and-disclose-relevant-financial-relationships

FOR MORE INFORMATION, email CME@Natividad.com

*A key concept for learning from teaching is that you are being provided credit for your preparation that is then employed in the teaching setting.  It is not actually credit for teaching.
